For older children: give them a story ending ('I never troubled the bull again!') and ask them to make the rest

How do you get children to make stories? There are a hundred ways - here's the first! Give them an interesting story ending, something that is really suggestive. Such as:

• I never troubled the bull ever again.
• From then on, whenever I went to the shop, I always got attention.
• And that was the day our friendship started.
• After that, I wasn't afraid of passing by that house in the dark.
• At long last, there was finally silence, and I could go to sleep.

Having identified the ending you want to work on, discuss what might have happened that led to it. In the first draft, get children to develop the key events. Later, they can add details of character, some dialogue perhaps, and some descriptions that make the whole thing come alive.

Apart from 'publishing' it on the class/school wall paper, you could have role plays, interviews with characters (e.g. Mr. Bull, what did you think of the boy who tried to trouble you?), drawings, masks... Enjoy!

बच्चों को कहानी बनाने की राह में कैसे बढ़ाएं? कम में कम सौ तरीके तो होंगे ही, और ये रहा उनमें से पहला! उन्हें किसी कहानी का रोचक सा अंत दें, ऐसा जिसे सुनते ही मन में आईडिया आने लगें.  जैसे कि:

• फिर मैंने बैल को कभी नहीं छेड़ा 
• उसके बाद से, जब भी मैं उस दुकान पर जाता, वे मेरी ओर ज़रूर ध्यान देते.
• और इस तरह हमारी दोस्ती शुरू हुई.
• तब से रात के अँधेरे में उस घर के पास से गुज़रने से डर लगना बंद हो गया. 
• और आखिरकर, आवाज़ बंद हुई, चुप्पी छ गयी, और मेरे नींद लग गयी.

एक बार जब आप चुन लें कि किस 'अंत' पर काम करना है, बच्चों से बात करें कि क्या हुआ होगा कि यही अंत हुआ? पहली बार में तो बच्चों से कहें कि प्रमुख घटनाएँ पहचानें. बाद में, वे पात्रों के बारे में डीटेल्स सोच सकते हैं, शायद कुछ डायलोग जोड़ सकते हैं, और कुछ वर्णन इस तरह का कि कहानी जीवंत हो उठे. 


कहानी को कक्षा / स्कूल के दीवार अखबार में 'प्रकाशित' करने के आलावा, आप अभिनय, प्रमुख पात्रों का इंटरव्यू (बैल जी, ये लड़का जो आप को तंग करता था, उसके बारे में आप क्या सोचते हैं?), चित्र या मुखौटे बनाने जैसे कई काम कर सकते हैं. पूरी तरह आनंद लें - बाद में मौका नहीं मिलेगा!
